Dear Family and Friends,

         We would like to thank each of you for your generous contributions to Walnut Grove Cemetery.  We could not maintain our beautiful sacred grounds without your continued support.  We have enclosed a chart to honor all our faithful supporters.  As we begin our fund drive for the maintenance of the cemetery, we ask that you join us again in this endeavor.  Please make your tax deductible donation to the Walnut Grove Cemetery Association, c/o Janice Mitchell, 1464 Welcome Home Rd, Hector, AR  72843 or to any other board member listed in this letter.

         We hope you enjoy all our recent projects that your donations have made possible: (1) Memorial plaques are still available to be added to the Memorial Bridge at $100 each.  What a great way to honor a loved one. (2)  Many cemetery headstones have received a renewed appearance.  The work continues with more volunteers needed. Please contact David Williams if you can help.  (3) The Peter section located in the Southeast corner of the cemetery is being developed.  (4) Two Porta Johns have been replaced because of vandalism.  (5) We are in the process of placing ‘listing boxes’ at each section in the cemetery and at the pavilion.  This will help in finding graves.  (6)  By Decoration Day, we will have a cemetery mural in the pavilion done by an artist.  (7) Donor Charts will be displayed in the pavilion for past years and current years.  For all your donations we say ‘Thank You’.

          The Walnut Grove Cemetery Board continues to work hard to keep our cemetery looking good and your comments are always welcomed.  Each member brings their own special talents and abilities to the group and that makes a good team.  We are excited to announce that we have added three new members:  Troy Coffman, Charles Gray and Jan Alderson.

         The cemetery workday and flag replacement is scheduled for May 12 and the Decoration Day Program will be on Sunday, May 27 at 2:00 p.m.  This year we will honor Robert Lee Taylor and Iva B Savage and their children:  Camie, Luther, Ulas, Hulan, and Leonard.  Taylor family members will provide the program with singing, family talks, picture displays, a devotional and handouts.  A video of the program will be made as well as family group pictures will be taken.  We have a special treat from an artist in the Taylor family.  She is donating an original, one-of-a-kind oil painting of a scene in the cemetery.  (Please see the enclosed flyer).  We will have a silent auction for the painting valued at $575.00 with ALL proceeds going to the Maintenance Fund of the cemetery.  How fun is that?

Please plan to attend the Decoration Day Program on Memorial Day weekend at Walnut Grove Cemetery.  We are excited to announce that we will honor the Petty family at the 2019 Decoration Day program. They are already planning a great program.

         Our Maintenance Fund balance from April 15, 2017 was $5,871.55 donations for the year were $13,393.53; and after expenses of $12,145.27, our Maintenance Fund balance as of April 15, 2018 is $7,119.81.  We are hoping for another good fund drive this year.  A detailed financial report and a copy of our cemetery guidelines will be available upon request at the Decoration.   A full disclosure of outstanding debts can be found on the back of this letter.

         Thanks again to our families who help us keep Walnut Grove Cemetery a beautiful resting place for our loved ones.  A special thanks to Randal Crouch who keeps the grounds looking so good. The names of those buried in Walnut Grove Cemetery from April 15, 2017—April 15, 2018 are found on the back of this letter and board members are listed at the bottom of this letter.  Please feel free to contact any of our board members with your concerns or comments.  Thanks again for your support.

TAYLOR FAMILY

Robert Lee Taylor and Iva Bell Savage Taylor had five boys and we celebrate their memory today.  Robert Lee was the son of James Paris Taylor and Sarah Mainord.  James fought in the Civil War.  After the war was over, they left Tennessee and moved to Searcy County and lived in the Marshall and Rambo area.  Sarah died on February 15, 1907 and James died the following month on March 1, 1907.  

Robert Lee (Bob) accepted Jesus Christ at the age of 14 and studying the Bible became a passion in his life.  While he was still a teenager, God placed a call upon his heart to preach the gospel.  He married Iva Bell Savage on September 13, 1901 and they traveled to different states spreading God’s word.  They asked God for a baby and received five boys.

 Camie Estes Taylor (1903-1986) married Viola Helton and their children are Pearlie Eleen, Julia Lorene, and Bobbie Charlene.  Luther Arvil Taylor (1905-1996) married Gertha Story and they had a daughter Billie.  Ulas Shedran Taylor (1910-1987) had four daughters:  Oweita K.,Lawatha Sue, Billie Jean, and Sharon Sue.  Ulas married Ayleen Story, Imogene Brown, and Marilyn Hill.  Hulan Bransford Taylor (1915-2008) married Pearl Coffman and their children are:  Ronald Lee, Charles Aldon and Pattie Sue.  Leonard Julian Taylor (1924-present) married Wanda Bryan and their children are:  Peggy Jean, Julian Leon, and Jerald Stephen.  Leonard is the only surviving child of Robert Lee and Iva Bell Savage Taylor.  In June, Leonard will be 94 years old and his wife, Wanda, will be 90 years old.
