Dear Family and Friends,
We would like to thank each of you for your generous contributions to Walnut Grove Cemetery. We could not maintain our beautiful sacred grounds without your continued support. We have enclosed a chart to honor all our faithful supporters. As we begin our fund drive for the maintenance of the cemetery, we ask that you join us again in this endeavor. Please make your tax deductible donation to the Walnut Grove Cemetery Association, c/o Janice Mitchell, 1464 Welcome Home Rd, Hector, AR 72843 or to any other board member listed on the back of this letter.
We hope you enjoy all our recent projects that your donations have made possible: (1) The beautiful cross in the Calvary section now includes a nice donor plaque honoring those who donated to the Cross Project. (2) The paved circle drive on the hill is really great. Thanks to all who donated to the Road Project. (3) Memorial plaques are still available to be added to the Memorial Bridge at $100 each. What a great way to honor a loved one. (4) Many cemetery headstones have received a renewed appearance. Volunteers have used D/2 Biological Solution to clean approximately 100 headstones and the work continues with more volunteers needed. Please contact David Williams if you can help. (5) The Peter section located in the Southeast corner of the cemetery is still being developed; most recently, we added a nice chain link fence. (6) We have placed engraved granite row markers throughout the cemetery for the convenience of finding a certain section and row in the cemetery. For all your donations we say ‘Thank You’.
The Walnut Grove Cemetery Board continues to work hard to keep our cemetery looking good and your comments are always welcomed. Each member brings their own special talents and abilities to the group and that makes a good team. We are excited to have David Williams as our newest Board member replacing Aaron Duvall. Special thanks goes to our Grounds Director Randal Crouch who does a great job!
The cemetery workday is scheduled for May 6 and the Decoration Day Program will be on Sunday, May 28 at 2:00 p.m. This year we will honor Thomas N. Tripp and Martha Horn Tripp and their children: Harmon, Millus, Mark, Scott, Lester, Belle, Emma, Rena, and Cynthia. Tripp family members will provide the program with singing, family talks, picture displays, and handouts. A video of the program will be made as well as family group pictures will be taken. Please plan to attend the Decoration Day Program on Memorial Day weekend at Walnut Grove Cemetery. We are excited to announce that we will honor the Taylor family at the 2018 Decoration Day program.
Our Maintenance Fund balance from April 15, 2016 was $9,980.94; donations for the year were $16,594.07; and after expenses of $20,703.46 for several projects, our Maintenance Fund balance as of April 15, 2017 is $5,871.55. We are hoping for another good fund drive this year. A detailed financial report and a copy of our cemetery guidelines will be available upon request at the Decoration. A full disclosure of outstanding debts can be found at the bottom of this letter.
Thanks again to our families who help us keep Walnut Grove Cemetery a beautiful resting place for our loved ones. The names of those buried in Walnut Grove Cemetery from April 15, 2016—April 15, 2017 are found on the back of this letter along with a list of the board members of Walnut Grove Cemetery Association. Please feel free to contact any of our board members with your concerns or comments. Thanks again for your support.

THOMAS N. AND MARTHA JANE HORN TRIPP
The Walnut Grove Decoration Day program will be dedicated to the memory of Thomas N.Tripp (1861-1920) and Martha Jane Horn Tripp (1859-1943) and their children.
Their children are: Belle (Lawley), Harmon, Millus, Emma (Eakin), Rena (Kinslow), Cynthia (Flanagin), Mark, Scott, and Lester. Thomas N. was the grandson of John and Fanny Tripp, who came to Pope County from Lawrence County, Tennessee with the Petty Wagon Train in 1848 and settled north of Hector in the present day Bayou Bluff Park area. He married Martha Jane Horn at Watts in Searcy County, June 6, 1881. They continued to live in Searcy County for a few years and eventually returned to the Hector area and lived near Dare Creek. In 1913, Thomas purchased 160 acres of land which was located along the present day Cherry Street and Highway 27 in Hector. A portion of those 160 acres has remained in the Tripp family since that time.
