April 20, 2016
Dear Family and Friends,
We would like to thank each of you for your generous contributions to Walnut Grove Cemetery. We could not maintain our beautiful sacred grounds without your continued support. We have enclosed a special chart to honor all our faithful supporters. As we begin our fund drive for the maintenance of the cemetery, we ask that you join us again in this endeavor. Please make your tax deductible donation to the Walnut Grove Cemetery Association, c/o Janice Mitchell, 1464 Welcome Home Rd, Hector, AR 72843 or to any other board member listed on the back of this letter.
We continue to accept donations for the cross project thru Memorial Day 2016. After that time, we will have a plaque prepared to display the names of all who have donated to this project. The balance on the cross project is $1,468 and we appreciate those shown on the enclosed chart who have already donated. Many positive comments have been made to the cemetery board regarding the beauty of the cross. On your donations, please indicate ‘maintenance’ or ‘cross’ on your check.
We hope you enjoy all our recent projects that your donations have made possible. We continue to make improvements to the cemetery such as the cleanup work in the South East corner of the cemetery that will be used for future development of the Peter section. The Memorial Bridge is a focal point in the cemetery and we continue to add personalized memorial plaques for $100. Also, in honor of our veterans, we have added new flags for an awesome patriotic display.
We have taken on a long-term project of preserving the headstones of many of the older deteriorated monuments in Walnut Grove Cemetery. We have purchased D2, a biodegradable liquid, which will safely remove most stains caused by mold, mildew, algae, lichen, and etc. These elements can cause an unsightly breakdown of the stones. D2 is used on the White House, National Cemeteries and much more. We are so excited about how it works for us, but we need volunteers to help with this major project. Please let us know if you can help.
(2) Please mark your reserved plots. (3) According to our 2011 guidelines, fences, hedges or enclosures are not allowed in the cemetery. The Walnut Grove Cemetery Association is not responsible for maintenance inside enclosures.
Aaron Duvall has been added to our cemetery board and we are excited to have him join us as we work to care for the cemetery. We would like to honor James Coffman, a former board member and cemetery caretaker, who passed away recently. His dedication and commitment to Walnut Grove Cemetery was remarkable. Thanks, James Coffman.
The cemetery workday is scheduled for May 14 and the Decoration Day Program will be on Sunday, May 29 at 1:30 p.m. This year we will honor Noah Iverson Coffman, Joseph Dempsey Coffman, Walker Bealer Coffman and Lester Marion Coffman. They are 4 of the sons of Marion Edward “Ned” Coffman and Mary Christie Churchill Coffman. Our records show 482 members of the Coffman families are buried in this cemetery. Many of these were descendants of Ned Coffman and his 16 children who lived in the Walnut Grove Community. Members of these 4 families will provide the program with singing, family talks, picture displays, and handouts. A video of the program will be made as well as family group pictures will be taken. Please plan to attend the Decoration Day Program on Memorial Day weekend at Walnut Grove Cemetery. We are excited to announce that we will honor the Tripp family at the 2017 Decoration Day program.
Our Maintenance Fund balance from April 15, 2015 was $6,990.71 and our Maintenance Fund balance as of April 15, 2016 is $9,980.94. A detailed financial report and a copy of our cemetery guidelines will be available upon request at the Decoration. A full disclosure of outstanding debts can be found on the back of this letter.
Thanks again to our families who help us keep Walnut Grove Cemetery a beautiful resting place for our loved ones. The names of those buried in Walnut Grove Cemetery from April 15, 2015—April 20, 2016 are found on the back of this letter along with a list of the board members of Walnut Grove Cemetery Association. Please feel free to contact any of our board members with your concerns or comments. Thanks again for your support.
