2012 NEWSLETTER

April 30, 2012

Dear Family and Friends,

First and foremost, we would like to thank each of you for your generous contributions to Walnut Grove Cemetery.  We could not maintain our beautiful grounds without your continued support.  As we begin our fund drive for the maintenance of the cemetery, we ask that you join us in this endeavor.  Please make your donation to the Walnut Grove Cemetery Association, c/o Janice Mitchell, 1464 Welcome Home Rd,

Hector, AR  72843 or to any other board member listed on the back of this letter.

We have made several improvements during the past year:  (1) We have a new cattle guard at the South entrance of the cemetery that was donated by South Western Energy.  (2) We have a new gated entrance

to the sections on the hill. (3) We have made improvements to the pavilion which includes a new metal roof, new paint and needed repairs. (4) We will have a Memorial Bridge for walking from the lower part of the cemetery to the sections on the hill.  It will be completed by Memorial Day.  To help with the cost of this bridge, we are offering 4 ¼” x 6 ¼” memorial plaques for a $ ?? donation.  The plaque pictured on the back will be placed on the bridge as a memorial to a loved one.  If you are interested, send the memorial donation and information with your annual donation to the maintenance fund.

We appreciate all of you who have placed markers on your reserved plots in the cemetery.  We have enclosed a Reservation Certificate for those reserved plots that have approved markers and are placed properly. If you do not have a marker on your reserved plot, please let us know when you are able to do that and we will inspect it and issue you a Reservation Certificate.  Please keep your Reservation Certificate in a safe place for future use. If you already have a headstone on your reserved plot, no Reservation Certificate will be issued.  REMINDER 1:  According to our guidelines, a $200 cemetery fee is due for each interment in Walnut Grove Cemetery whenever a plot is used.  This fee is in addition to any reserved plot fee paid previously.  REMINDER 2:  Please make sure your reserved plot marker is buried deep enough that ONLY (1”) one inch is above ground.  Thanks, this will help our grounds team.

The James Coffman crew continues to mow the cemetery grounds and weed around the gravestones during the growing season.  Thanks to our families for your help in keeping the gravestones looking good and taking care of the flowers.

You can check out our website at www.walnutgrovecemeteryofhector.org.  Randal Crouch has done an excellent job of maintaining our website.  There you can find a grave by name or by cemetery section and also see a picture of the headstone.  You can find our guidelines, many interesting facts about the cemetery and pictures of cemetery visitors.  There is contact information for you to submit notes and information about your family history.  It is an awesome website!

The cemetery workday is scheduled for May 12 and the Decoration will be on May 27.  The program begins at 1:30 with special singing, family talks, a devotional speaker, and a short business meeting.  Family talks include Gerald Riley representing the Riley family and Kenneth Crouch representing the Crouch family.  Rev. Jonathan McEntire, pastor of Welcome Home Free Will Baptist Church will give the devotion and Rev. Randell Williams will conduct the business meeting. Please help us find someone to speak on behalf of the Story family and the Cossey family at the 2013 Decoration.  If you have ideas, talk to one of our board members.

From April 15, 2011 to April 15, 2012, our Maintenance Fund included donations and interest of $5,490.53 and our expenses were $9,286.69 leaving a Maintenance Fund balance April 15, 2012 of $3,313.04.  A detailed financial report and a copy of our cemetery guidelines will be available upon request at the Decoration.

Thanks again for helping us keep Walnut Grove Cemetery a beautiful resting place for our loved ones.  The names of those buried in Walnut Grove Cemetery from May 30, 2011—April  30, 2012 are found on the back of this letter along with a list of the officers of Walnut Grove Cemetery Association.  Please feel free to contact any of our board members with your concerns or comments.

Ken attended 5th Grade at Hector.  In 1948, the family relocated to Russellville, Arkansas.  As a senior at Russellville High School, Ken met Barbara Booher on a blind date.  A few months after graduation, Ken and Barbara were married.  Ken enlisted in the U S Army, and served in the United States, Canada and Germany, during which he obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant.  After being honorably discharged, Ken attended Arkansas Tech University.  During both his Junior and Senior years at Tech, he was named to Who’s Who in American Universities and Colleges,  earning a BS degree in Accounting.
